Everybody can be
great…because anybody can serve. – Martin

Step 1:
Register
In order to sign up for projects, you must first
register on our site.
Step 2:
Think about how you want to
volunteer
There are so many ways to volunteer; the choices can
often be overwhelming. Here are a few things to
consider:
- How much time do you have?
- What level of commitment are you able to make?
- Who’s volunteering with you?
- What issues are you passionate about?
- What kind of service do you want to do?
- What do you hope to gain from the experience?
Tip – Be persistent. It can take time to
find the right volunteer opportunity that matches
your interests and skills and provides a fun and
rewarding experience.
Step 3:
Explore different ways of volunteering
You can also check out our
Project Calendar to find volunteer events on
specific dates. If after exploring the various
options available through our website, you are still
struggling, and would like some extra assistance,
please email
volunteer1@volunteersandiego.org or call
858-636-4127 with the
following information:
- Full Name
- Daytime phone
number
- Preferred Location
- Any additional
information you can give us about the types of work
you are interested in doing
Please note: Our
Referral Specialists (trained volunteers) do not
work full time and get many requests each week. We
will respond to your inquiry as soon as we can.
Anyone Can Volunteer! Check out our
Service
Inclusion page to find out more about volunteer
opportunities for people with disabilities.
Step 4:
Sign-Up
When you find a project that’s right for you, you
can click either a “sign me up” (for
projects that are run by Volunteer San Diego) or
a ”have agency contact me" (to get more information on
projects run by our partner agencies) button. In
either case, you will automatically receive more
project details via email.
Step 5:
Volunteer and Have fun!
Step 6:
Don’t
give up
If you don’t get a response immediately - please be
patient. Most Volunteer Coordinators “wear several
hats” in their organization, so it may take some
time for them to get back to you. If you haven’t
received a response in several days, try again. If
you still don’t get a response, consider looking for
an alternate opportunity or try again later.
If you don’t enjoy one volunteer experience – try
another. There are many ways you can get involved
and make a difference in your community. If you
tried something and it’s not for you, try something
else. You’ll be glad that you did!
